Ahoy! Where Lies Henry Hudson?
Architects
Noteworthy architects from the Catskills and Hudson Valley are imagining that Henry Hudson’s remains just washed up on the shores of Ulster County. They are designing and constructing memorials that interpret the significance of Hudson’s historic journey within the context of 400 years of European occupation that followed the discovery. These interpretations range from whimsical to satirical, celebratory, and reverent.
Organized by the Woodstock Guild of Craftsmen, the exhibition is part of New York State’s Quadricentennial commemoration. The site–specific and outdoor memorials will be installed outdoors on the grounds of the historic Byrdcliffe Art Colony in Woodstock, N.Y. from June 13–October 12, 2009.
"Ahoy! Where Lies Henry Hudson?" combines architecture, history, art, performance, education, and ecology to both delight and reflect upon exploration and discovery, adventure and heroism.
