"AHOY! Architects at the Helm: Daring Explorations of Hudson's Hudson Voyage"
An Open Forum featuring 16 regional architects who designed and constructed memorials honoring Henry Hudson as part of the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild’s Quadricentennial Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition “Ahoy! Where Lies Henry Hudson?” will take place on Saturday, September 13, 2-5 pm at the Byrdcliffe Theater. Moderated by Frances Halsband and Peter Wheelwright, the architects will discuss their daring interpretations of Henry Hudson’s historic voyage.
In answer to the question, Why architects?, Curator Linda Weintraub comments, “By choosing architects, I hoped to offer the audience of “AHOY!” multi–dimensional insights and pleasures that exceed the typical experiences provided by art…there is not a single installation in which the audience is merely the observer of a static art object.” The architects were released from the constraints imposed by building codes, zoning ordinances, client specifications, and engineering protocols; providing a rare opportunity for them to display the fullness of their creative imaginations.
Panelists include: Tobias Armborst (with Charles Warren), Byron Bell, Matt Bialecki, Matt Bua, John Cetra and Nancy Ruddy, Solange Fabião, Randy Gerner, Nicholas Goldsmith, Michael McDonough (with Andrew Neal), Barry Price, Todd Rader and Amy Crews, and Evan Stoller.
