Residency Fee

Byrdcliffe’s Residency fee is $700 per artist* per 4-week session. Fees are due upon acceptance into the program. The residency fee is non-refundable. In the case of a cancellation, we will only consider a refund of the residency fee if the session can be filled with another resident.

*Note: different fees apply for independent living residencies in Varenka and The Forge

Financial Aid

Byrdcliffe offers a number of fellowships each summer based on a combination of financial need and artistic merit, ranging from partial to full coverage of residency fees. To be eligible for a fellowship, artists must submit the first two pages of their most recent tax return with their application.

Financial Aid Types

The Pollock Krasner Foundation is a major supporter of Byrdcliffe’s Artist-in-Residence Program. We are also supported by the Milton & Sally Avery Arts Foundation.

Artists can apply for general need/merit-based fellowships, or generous Pollock-Krasner fellowships specifically for artists affected by natural disaster, including but not limited to the California wildfires, hurricanes in Puerto Rico, Florida and Texas, and the earthquakes in Mexico.

The annual Mantooth/Morabito Fellowship is available to an artist of color.

The annual Kate Pierson/Monica Coleman Fellowship is available to an artist who self-identifies as a woman.

To be considered for a fellowship, artists must submit the required financial information listed in the application.
