Residents are chosen by a selection committee of professionals in the arts. The major criterion for acceptance is proof of serious commitment to one’s field of endeavor. Professional recognition is helpful for admission, but is not essential.

Panelists in the past have included: Gregory Amenoff, Jake Berthot, Joan Snyder, Portia Munson, Melissa Meyer and Donald Elder and literary panelists included Gail Godwin, Matthew Spireng, Martha Frankel (fiction), Olga Broumas (poetry), Gus Schulenburg, Evangeline Morphos (playwrights) and Rob Handel (Handel Award) and Nancy Golladay (BMI Faculty).

Deadline

Deadline has passed. Applicants will be notified by late April/early May!!

Applications should be postmarked by Monday, March 01, 2010. Applications received after this date will be considered on a space available basis. You will be notified by email and a letter approximately four–five weeks after the March 01, submission.

Application Fee and online payment

You may pay using a check (checks made out to Woodstock Guild), US Money Order, PayPal, VISA, Master Card, Discover, and American Express.

Session Dates and Session Fees

Residencies are available for one–month sessions as follows. If space becomes available, artists may stay for more than one session. All sessions are $300. Each session concludes with an Open Studio.

  • Session I: June 1–June 27, 2010
  • Session II: June 29–July 25, 2010
  • Session III: July 27–August 22, 2010
  • Session IV: August 24–September 19, 2010

Accommodations

All residents are assigned a private room and studio. Accommodations vary in size and availability. There is a computer with internet access.

Please list requirements or equipment which you would expect to find available and which you consider necessary for your specific creative project. Composers must provide their own keyboard with headphones.

Pets are not permitted except for assist/guide animals.

Support Materials

(All materials should be of recent work)

  1. Copy of your professional resume.
  2. Describe your work plans for your stay on a separate piece of paper.
  3. Please supply two references.

Artists

  • 8 to 10 slides (in a 9” x 11” plastic slide sheet, each labeled with name, top, medium, dimensions and date of work). Photographers should include 8 to 10 actual photographs.
  • Slide list numbered to correspond with slides. For each slide, give title, date executed, dimensions, medium, price. CD/DVD’s (JPEG 300 dpi) are acceptable. Include JPEG index.

Writers

  • Two copies of a manuscript. (No more than 12 pages of poetry, one chapter or story–length prose or non–fiction piece or up to 40 pages of a BOUND play script). Non–fiction writers please include a brief précis of your project.

Composers and Musicians

  • Score for at least ten minutes of music, plus tape/CD (if available).

References and past Residencies

Please provided us with a list of two references and list the names and dates of other residency programs that you have attended. Letters of recommendation are not required, but if you feel it is useful for your application then you may do so.

Fellowships and Writer Assistance

There are fellowships and stipends available for artists and for playwrights. There is tuition assistance for writers under the age of 35. Please indicate if you are interested in the fellowships on the application form.
