SPRING FLING, AN EVENING OF CABARET AND FASHION AT THE BYRDCLIFFE BARN
Area businesses participate in collaborative celebration of fashion as fine art
Spring Fling: An Evening of Cabaret and Fashion is the seventh annual fashion show at the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild (WBG), a benefit focusing on Byrdcliffe’s celebrated Artist-in-Residence Program, which provides an opportunity for visual artists, writers, and composers to work in the creative solitude of a historic art colony. In addition to supporting Byrdcliffe’s Artist-in-Residence Program, proceeds from Spring Fling will help sustain other creative Byrdcliffe arts programming that benefits the Hudson Valley community.
Spring Fling will take place on Saturday, April 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Byrdcliffe Barn, 485 Upper Byrdcliffe Road in Woodstock. The event represents a new level of fun and playfulness at the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild; it is bawdy, sexy, and joyful, with a live band, singers, and dancers. This evening of music, performance, art, and fabulous fashion features clothes by local merchants shown off by Byrdcliffe residents and crowd favorites. The event will be hosted by Chris Wells, the Obie award-winning writer, actor, and community leader, as well as the founding artistic director of the much-lauded “art church,” The Secret City, in support of the programs at the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild.
The evening will begin with a cocktail hour including a delicious assortment of food, prosecco, and wines donated by local restaurants and merchants. There will be a unique offering of silent auction items: you will be tempted to bid on a South African Safari experience, local restaurant, spa, and home decor gift certificates, jewelry as well as an opportunity to personally support the renovation and improvement of the buildings Eastover and Villetta Inn at the Byrdcliffe Art Colony.
In previous years, Byrdcliffe’s fashion show transformed the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts in downtown Woodstock into a fabulous, high-style runway; this year that ambiance will be transported to Byrdcliffe’s historic Barn, built in 1902 as part of the utopian arts colony envisioned by Byrdcliffe’s founders Ralph and Jane Whitehead. The well-dressed Whiteheads—themselves exemplars of how a country setting and high style are not mutually exclusive—will attend in spirit as the Barn lights up with new fashions, models, and auction items, all with the power to make Woodstock and beyond a bit more glamorous. All proceeds from the 2018 Spring Fling will go towards supporting Byrdcliffe’s diverse arts programming.
Participating stores from Woodstock and beyond: Capsule Collection Boutique, Changes, Grace Hat Engineering, Hamilton & Adams, Juda Leah Atelier, Justin Love, Lily’s, Oak 42, Pegasus Footwear, Rock City Vintage
