Fit/Dance with Adah Frank
Starting Thursday, June 8, 2017
Thursdays, 10 – 11 a.m. at the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts (access through the side office door at 34 Tinker Street, down the path to the right of Marigold Home).
No class meetings on the following dates: July 6, August 24, October 12, October 19, November 23, November 30.
What: A fusion class that combines elements from yoga, strength, stretch and agility exercises, and dance
For whom: Excellent for reasonably active aging bodies (and younger ones!). Men and women.
The dance part of this class uses a vocabulary of movement drawn from various disciplines – African, modern, Caribbean, Latin and some improv thrown in. It’s all about community, heat-generation, and inspiring music. We start with a warm-up, move into some dance moves (no need to have a dance background – just have fun), and the last 20 minutes or so are devoted to targeted strength exercises, stretching, and yoga.
Cost: $12, paid directly to instructor in class.
Please bring a mat and dress appropriately – comfy work-out clothing and well-cushioned shoes.
About the instructor: Adah Frank has been dancing, running, hiking, biking, and more for a very long time, and loves to move! She acquired her personal training certification 25 + years ago and her yoga teacher certification in 2008. She has studied sacred and secular African and Afro-Carribbean dance for over 20 years. Adah also leads therapeutic movement groups at Health Alliance in the in-patient mental health unit.
