Ahoy! Where Lies Henry Hudson?

Byrdcliffe Outdoor Sculpture Show 2009

Exhibition Dates: June 13 – October 12, 2009
Location: Byrdcliffe Arts Colony, Upper Byrdcliffe Road, Woodstock, NY
Time: From dusk till dawn

16 Hudson Valley architects are designing and constructing “memorials” to Henry Hudson who never received a proper burial because his body was lost at sea after his crew mutinied. The outdoor installations are constructed at the historic Byrdcliffe Arts Colony on Upper Byrdcliffe Road, Woodstock. Each installation interprets Hudson’s historic voyage, updating and shedding light on its significance. Programming throughout the summer will elaborate on this theme through popular song, poetry, dance, puppetry, and scholarly discourse.

Organized by the Woodstock Guild of Craftsmen, the exhibition is part of New York State’s Quadricentennial commemoration. The site-specific and outdoor memorials will be installed outdoors on the grounds of the historic Byrdcliffe Art Colony in Woodstock, NY from June 13-October 12, 2009. Curator: Linda Weintraub. Woodstock Guild Director: Carla Smith. Architectural coordinator: Alan Baer.
