BYRDCLIFFE YEAR END APPEAL
Byrdcliffe has turned a corner. As 2011 comes to a close, we have much to celebrate. We are grateful to all our supporters and friends who have made this possible.
This year we significantly expanded our art programming. Twelve additional artists enjoyed the privilege of a month of uninterrupted work at Byrdcliffe. And, we expanded our class offerings to include woodworking, jewelry making, life drawing and yoga. Significant facility improvements included upgrades to our artist houses, a major roofing project, and conversion of an unused space to a working wood shop. Most important of all, we opened beautiful White Pines to serve as a lively multi-use facility offering studio, exhibition, and class space, as well as an outstanding event venue.
Our exhibitions continue to garner favorable reviews enhancing our gallery’s reputation as one of the best in the Hudson Valley. Our music program included the ever popular Woodstock Beat and Winter Solstice concerts along with a memorable evening with Pete and Peggy Seeger. In 2011 we engaged in a strategic partnership with the New York Foundation for the Arts. This amplified our capacity to support the regional Byrdcliffe art community. Opening the Byrdcliffe Cafe and reviving the oldest tennis court in Woodstock brought new life to the Colony as well.
In a highly competitive grant environment we were successful in obtaining a New York State Council for the Arts grant of $54,000 paid over three years. Perhaps most importantly, we have made fundamental improvements to our net operating cost totaling 14% or $78,000.

Our progress is tangible. And, there is a lot more work to be done. We need your support. If you have already donated this year, we sincerely thank you. If you can afford to give again, we will be even more grateful. And, if you haven’t given yet, please consider doing so now.
