"Delgado plays wordy, catchy songs that span from his solo acoustic performances, to the fuller grittier end of recordings with his band Wounded Knee" - Andrew Gregory, Albany Times Union

On October 29, 2016, the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild presents Woodstock rock-and-roller Marc Delgado, whose music, lyrics, and poetry somehow say it all. They are all about peopleóreal ones, dead ones, motel dwellers, the world-weary--and places, with no shortage of lobbies and long roads. Having played close to 300 solo shows since relocating from California to Woodstock in 2014, Delgado calls his profession "traveling solo performer." That self-characterization is at the core of his music, which puts listeners in the passenger seat of a nondescript sedan as it wends through the American landscape in search of seediness and salvation. Delgado also writes, sings, and records with Alt-Rock/Americana act Wounded Knee.

Marc Delgado and Sandy Bell Concert - $20 (not-yet member price)

Marc Delgado and Sandy Bell - $18 (Byrdcliffe member price)

Delgado and his wife Melanie, a visual artist who teaches at Woodstock School of Art, moved to Woodstock in 2014 and settled at the Byrdcliffe Art Colony. Founded in 1902, Byrdcliffe today provides both year-round and short-term residencies to artists, including visual artists, musicians, writers, and filmmakers. Byrdcliffe's Kleinert/James Center for the Arts is an exhibition space as well as a music venue with superb acoustics and a 1926 Steinway 6-foot grand piano. The K/J has hosted musicians as diverse as Warren Bernhardt, Marilyn Crispell, Pete Seeger, Sylvia Tyson, and Happy Traum. Delgado's October 29 performance will include his early songs, stripped down versions of the Wounded Knee catalogue, and new music from his upcoming record, Wildwood Road.

Opening for Marc Delgado will be special guest Sandy Bell, a songwriter, singer and musician who lives in Woodstock, NY. She has played most notably with musical sensation Jeff Buckley and contributed background vocals on the locally recorded Bat for Lashes album. A 2016 review by Alex Green referred to Bell's album When I Leave Ohio as "beautiful, resonant work thatís stark and painful, oddly comforting and deeply, deeply sad. Sandy Bell's songs have such poetic precision and crushing emotional exactitude, her work is nothing short of staggering." Doors open at 7:30 pm; performance at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $20 ($18 for Byrdcliffe members).
