Byrdcliffe will be holding an ARTIST SPOTLIGHT for the wonderful textile designer Miriam Bisceglia this holiday season on Friday, December 20, noon to 6:00 pm at the Byrdcliffe Shop on 36 Tinker Street in Woodstock, NY. The Artist Spotlight will focus on Miriam’s work, and everybody will be able to meet her at the Byrdcliffe Shop and find out more about the skills and fine artistry involved in her unique textile creations.
Miriam Bisceglia, a painter and printmaker, is a resident of Woodstock and teaches textile design at William Paterson University in New Jersey. She studied art and textiles at New York University and FIT, and earned an MFA at William Paterson in Painting and Printmaking. Her current work includes hand dyed silk accessories that dazzle with unexpected color and shape schemes. Miriam uses line and color to explore abstract images. As an artist, she works from an emotional perspective to discover an automatic writing. For Miriam, creating art is like a ritual. The ritual can be just as important as the final image. Experimentation with a variety of mediums and techniques are an important part of her process. When she creates art, she empathizes with her subject matter and finds herself observing from a different plane, a place that activates her senses from her own perspective. On December 1, Miriam will be in the shop from 12 until 6 pm. During that time, she will demonstrate several different techniques, exploring the process of surface design on fabric.
