SUMMARY:Closing Reception for "Going Upstate: The Avery Family in Woodstock"
DESCRIPTION:Sean Cavanaugh\, Water\, Mist and Mountain\, 2018\, watercolor on paper \n  \ncurated by Bruce Weber\nExhibition on view July 11 – October 25\, 2026\nClosing reception\nSaturday October 17\, 2026\, 3-5 PM \nFor 125 years\, Byrdcliffe has cultivated a community of artists at the base of Mount Guardian in the hamlet of Woodstock\, NY.  Founded on principles of camaraderie\, fidelity to quality\, a reverence for nature and deep respect for fellow creators\, Byrdcliffe has welcomed an impressive roster of artists and thinkers to this important art colony. \nWhile many of these creative denizens went on to reknown — Laszlo Moholy-Nagy\, Bob Dylan\, Eva Hesse\, Philip Guston\, Thorstein Veblen and many more — few so embodied the spirit of Byrdcliffe than the Avery Family. \nSpanning four generations\, the exhibition brings together works by Milton Avery and Sally Michel Avery\, their daughter March Avery\, her husband Philip G. Cavanaugh\, their son Sean Cavanaugh\, and his child Delilah Cavanaugh. For the first time\, the public will have the opportunity to experience an intimate look at the art created in Woodstock by the Avery family — a body of work deeply rooted in American modernism.

SUMMARY:The Last Supper: A Grand Guignol Love Story
DESCRIPTION:A death dinner. A zombie apocalypse. Love\, democracy\, and everyone fighting for a seat at the last supper. \nPURCHASE TICKETS \nTHE LAST SUPPER\nA Grand Guignol Love Story by David Simpatico \nWhat if your last supper really were your last supper?\nAs civilization collapses around them\, seven wildly different survivors gather under one roof for an impossible dinner. At the center of the evening is Edgar\, an elderly man who has decided to die on his own terms. A death doula has been brought in to help him make that final passage. But Edgar’s carefully planned death dinner is interrupted by a rather larger problem: the dead are rising. \nPolitical zealots\, believers\, skeptics\, lovers\, old gods\, new machines and zombies all demand a place at the table. Some want to eat. Some want to preach. Some want to decide who has the right to live—or die. And some just want to survive until morning. The Last Supper is a darkly comic Grand Guignol love story about the collision between individual choice and collective survival. Beneath the blood\, absurdity and zombie mayhem is a surprisingly intimate question: When everything falls apart\, what do we owe one another? \nRound The Bend Theater presents this special staged reading at Byrdcliffe Theater as part of its larger commitment to developing and co-producing bold new plays and supporting playwrights. And because the apocalypse has impeccable timing\, we’re making a Halloween party of it. Come dressed as a zombie and join the parade and contest! \n  \n$25 tickets\nPURCHASE TICKETS \n  \nABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT \nDavid Simpatico’s career highlights include: the book/stage adaptation of Disney’s High School\nMusical; The Screams of Kitty Genovese (Jonathan Larson Award; music by Will\nTodd); Garden of Light\, libretto for choral symphony\, withcomposer Aaron Jay Kernis. His\nmusical adaptation of Twelve Angry Men\, music and lyrics by Michael Holland\, received its\nworld premiere production in June\, 2022 at Theater Latte Da in Minneapolis\, directed by Peter\nRothstein\, and a subsequent production at Asolo Rep in Sarasota\, Florida. His grand opera\, The\nLife and Death(s) of Alan Turing\, with music by Justine F. Chen\, received its world premiere at\nChicago Opera Theater in March\, 2023\, also directed by Peter Rothstein. He is currently\nadapting Wally Lamb’s She’s Come Undone\, with co-bookwriter Darrah Cloud\, and\ncomposer/lyricist\, Michael Holland. He is also working on That Hellbound Train\, a new jazz\nopera with composer Lisa DeSpain\, based on the short story by Robert Bloch. His play\, Ex-Gay\nBar\, was named Honorable Mention in the Carlo Annoni International Playwriting Award\, as\nwell as receiving the inaugural Voices For Change Action Grant by ArtsWestchester. Most\nrecently\, his oratorio adaptation of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol\, with score by Will Todd\,\nreceived its first production with Opera Holland Park at Sinfonia Smith Square in London\, Dec\,\n2024\, 2025 and 2026. \nDavid is an alumnus of the Composer Librettist Development Program at American Lyric\nTheater. SUMMARY:Chris Wells and Jeremy Bass: Story Songs
DESCRIPTION:PURCHASE TICKETS \nStory Songs offers an evening of theatrical\, wild\, and deeply narrative-driven music. Having written songs and collaborated across genres for more than 20 years\, singer Chris Wells and guitarist Jeremy Bass draw from their extensive back-catalog alongside brand-new original compositions. SUMMARY:An Evening with Tim Moore
DESCRIPTION:PURCHASE TICKETS \nDue to the area storm and to provide the best safety for our guests\, Byrdcliffe had to reschedule the September 26 performance by Tim Moore. If you purchased advanced tickets\, your purchase will be honored on the new date. If you would prefer a refund\, please contact us at info@woodstockguild.org \nByrdcliffe is pleased to welcome back musician Tim Moore for one night only. Moore’s sold-out 2025 concert was a highlight of Woodstock’s summer music season\, and this year the Woodstock resident returns with a new mix of songs and the same band. Respected as a top-tier writer by songsmiths ranging from Jimmy Webb to Keith Richards\, Moore is known for the stylistic reach of his songs\, from guitar rock and blues to heart-rending piano ballads. That nimble genre-crossing may help explain both his unusual career and his singular niche in music history. \nIn much of the world\, Moore is best known for his piano ballad “Second Avenue.” In Brazil\, he became a star with his number-one pop song “Yes.” His guitar riffs on his rock anthem “Rock and Roll Love Letter” sparked a friendship with Keith Richards\, leading to memorable all-night jam sessions with the Rolling Stones. Moore recalls\, “Locking in with Charlie Watts night after night was one of the great thrills of my life.” \nMoore’s many musical strands came together in last year’s Byrdcliffe concert. “There’s no theater anywhere like Byrdcliffe\,” Moore says. “It’s over a century old. You can do anything—be intimate or rocking and it fits. It feels like the ghosts of the place are listening.” Asked what might be different this time\, Moore says\, “My band was so sharp last year. Besides playing new songs\, and a surprise cover or two\, we might loosen up and jam more this time. Things could get grittier.” \nMoore’s band features longtime sideman Rob Stein on pedal steel and guitars\, Manuel Quintana on drums\, and Kyle Esposito on bass. Sarah Power and Bruce Milner will join for vocal harmonies. \nByrdcliffe members: $30\nNot-yet-members: $35\nPURCHASE TICKETS
