SUMMARY:Experimental Animation
DESCRIPTION:Register  here \nForget what you know about Disney and Nickelodeon cartoons (as cool as they are) – animation can be anything and made by anyone! In this workshop we’ll make mesmerizing looping animations by learning two experimental techniques: “weaving loops” and “the Ehrlich Effect” \nNo prior animation experience needed\, nor is it preferred.  Come animate in this pressure-free environment\, and by the end of the night leave with a satisfying gif you can show people at parties \nFor inspiration\, we’ll also take a look at the works of animators Anna Firth\, Caleb Wood\, David Ehrlich\, Amelia Johnston\, and Cecily Russo. \nJOHN QUINN is a current Byrdcliffe Artist-in-Residence\, graduate of Pratt Institute’s 2D Animation program\, and a presenting animator  in this past year’s Woodstock Film Festival.  His work is often experimental and analog – a mix of stop motion and various mediums on paper.  A goal outside of his personal practice is to make animation more accessible\, which is the idea behind this workshop series.  Lately he’s been drawing inspiration from programs like The Electric Company and Schoolhouse Rock and animators Sally Cruikshank and Vince Collins.  “‘The magic of animation’ I think turns a lot of people away from the medium\, and even though it is kind of magic\, anybody can do it – even people that can’t draw”. \nWorkshop fee: $70 WBG members\, $75 not-yet members\nRegister  here \nWorkshop limited to 10.

Using archetypes from the Tarot\, religious imagery\, satire and pantomime. The story follows two minor saints and a brave young maiden as they attempt to escape the clutches of an evil obsession.  A ruckus adventure tale that takes our heroes through many perilous escapades.  Think Monty Python meets Noel Coward. \nLora Lee Ecobelli’ is an award winning Actress\, Filmmaker\, Writer\, Director and Teacher. As an actress\, Lora Lee has performed both On and Off-Broadway and in regional theatre’s throughout the country in leading roles from the contemporary to the classics. She can also be seen in many independent films and television Lora Lee is the recipient of the Harold Clurman award for best leading actress in an Off-Broadway Play for her performance in The Vice by Luigi Pirandello. \nAs a filmmaker and director\, she is committed to telling personal women’s stories. Her experimental film La Transazione\, which she wrote and directed has stacked up numerous best picture awards at film festivals around the globe including the prestigious Cannes Short Film Festival. Her Latest film Laurina is currently on the festival circuit. \nAs a writer\, Lora Lee has several plays and monologues published by Smith and Krause and Art Age Publications. Her plays have been produced numerous times at the Samuel French Festival as well as at regional theaters throughout the county. She is also the co-author along with her brother Tom Ecobelli of a popular Italian cookbook published by Square Circle Press. She has just completed her first graphic novel called Wanda-Allen. \nLora Lee is the Artistic director of The Blue Horse Repertory Company\, a Hudson Valley Theatre Collective. SUMMARY:Linda Diamond Dance Co: "Mother Earth Beckons"
DESCRIPTION:  “Mother Earth Beckons” is the theme of the dance concert and will feature dancers Nina Deacon and 11 year old Dorothy Rabstenek who will perform three duets which have interrelated themes. Mother Earth\, a duet from the film Hymn to the Earth\, is the prelude to the longer work\, some of which shall be shown in a film with other dance company members. \n\n\n\nThere will be short dance films in between the duets that will include Parachute with music by well-known Woodstock composer Bar Scott; Hernando’s Hideaway with Nina Deacon\, Marcos Vasquez and two 9 year-old dancers\, Niyah Berger and Luna Anata.  Another dance film with choreography by Linda Diamond and music by the late Jonathan Kramer will also be shown.  Dancers are Linda Diamond & Clifton Brown – a guest artist at the time from Alvin Ailey American Dance Company.\n\n\n\nWoodstock composer Tom Desisto’s music shall be featured in the Mother Earth duet as well as in the film section of Hymn to the Earth\,  a Dance odyssey for our times.  \n\n\n\n\nLINDA DIAMOND & COMPANY is celebrating its 25th anniversary in Woodstock.  The company has received awards in the past from Arts MidHudson\, Harkness Foundation for Dance\, Mary Duke Biddle Foundation and others.\n\n\n\n\nSuggested donation $15. This time Sean is joined by his NYC-based band\, Silver Goat\, who will be performing their unique jamjazz. Their hypnotic and spellbinding sound will transform the audience to new dimensions. \nSean Schulich hails from Woodstock\, NY\, and after earning his Masters from Yale\, he won Artists International\, selling out his debut at Carnegie’s Weill Hall. Being a multi-genre musician\, he then went on to co-found the fusion group Alpha Mosaic\, winning a Sony Jazz Competition. DESCRIPTION:Make an earthenware planter with extruded clay parts. \nThis is a four hour handbuilding workshop using extruded clay tube shapes to create a unique planter for your garden or home. \nThe workshop will start with a demonstration of laying out the planter design cutting\, joining extruded pieces to build the walls and forms. After the demonstration\, the remainder of the class will be assembling your own pieces with guidance. The finished planters will be around 8” x 12” x 6” to fit on a widows sill or shelf. \nClay and tools are provided. SUMMARY:Let’s Misbehave\, a reading of a new musical by Rich Orloff
DESCRIPTION:purchase advance tickets \nDirected by Sydnie Grosberg Ronga \nA new musical using 1920’s Cole Porter songs in a tale that blends the frothy style of early musical comedy with modern sensibilities about sexuality and identity.  Set in 1925 Paris\, Let’s Misbehave is about a woman who leaves her loveless marriage in Dayton to go to Paris for fun and sexual adventures\, but neither she nor her husband (who follows her) are prepared for the complications that come with sexual freedom.  Let’s Misbehave is about the challenge of letting go of who you’ve been\, so you can embrace who you might become. \nRich Orloff is an internationally acclaimed\, not-yet-famous playwright. The New York Times called his play Big Boys “rip-roaringly funny” and named Funny As A Crutch a Critic’s Pick.  His comedy Romantic Fools  has had over 120 productions in the USA\, Africa\, Asia and Europe\, including two productions in Madrid\, where apparently they’re no better at romance than we are.  His short plays have had over 2000 productions on six continents – and a staged reading in Antarctica.  His musical Esther In The Spotlight has been performed in New York\, Miami\, Toronto and Tel Aviv\, and his educational children’s play Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Fight Tuberculosis Together was a big hit in Kosovo.  This season his plays are being produced in Finland\, Sweden\, Greece and Utica NY. \nTickets: $10 members\, $15 not-yet members \nPurchase advance tickets \nThis performance will take place at the Byrdcliffe Theatre at 380 Upper Byrdcliffe Rd in Woodstock\, NY.  \n\n\n\n\nPart of the Round the Bend Theater Company script reading series. SUMMARY:King of Lawns: a reading of a new play by Marc Wolf
DESCRIPTION:Directed by Beth Ryan Troxell \n\n\nMatt has not spoken with his sister Ruth for years\, but her imprisonment for environmental terrorism forces an unwelcome reunion. Ruth has no patience for Matt’s lawyerly approach to solving the world’s problems\, while Matt abhors Ruth’s use of violence and her acceptance of a devastating consequence of her imprisonment: separation from her young son Sky. Sky’s uncertain future pushes Matt and Ruth to search for new ways to create change\, as they attempt to heal both their immediate family and an earth spinning dangerously out of control. \nMarc Wolf’s solo performance pieces have been presented nationally and internationally. He won an Obie Award and was nominated for the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for the Off-Broadway production of his Another American: Asking and Telling at The New Group\, directed by Joe Mantello. Another American was revived at the DR2 Theatre in New York and was filmed under the title Don’t Ask\, Don’t Tell\, starring Marc\, directed by John Walsh and Mary Harron\, and produced by Michael Eisner and Daryl Roth. Marc was commissioned by McCarter Theatre to write and perform The Road Home: Re-Membering America\, which was produced at McCarter Theatre and New York Theatre Workshop’s Summer Residency directed by Emily Mann\, and at Huntington Theatre and Geva Theatre directed by David Schweizer.  He performed his play This Blessed Plot\, co-written with Robert Westfield\, at Weston Playhouse and New York Theatre Workshop’s Summer Residency\, directed by Joanna Settle. Recently he has appeared with the Maude Adams Theatre Hub in Casa Valentina and God of Carnage. On television\, he has appeared on The Sopranos\, Law & Order and as Brent Lawrence/Marian Crane on Guiding Light. In addition to the Obie Award\, Marc is the recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts awards and has won the Helen Hayes\, GLADD\, IRNE\, Garland and Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Awards. Another American is published in the anthology Political Stages: Plays that Shaped a Century.  Marc is a graduate of Williams College\, where he majored in Political Science and Theatre. He has also written on art for CNN\, NBC\, Art in America\, Art Forum\, The Guardian\, and several other publications. In 2020 he won the Rabkin Arts Journalism prize and in 2022 won the Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant. He is also a curator of contemporary art exhibitions\, including co-curating Get in the Game\, the largest show that the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art has undertaken\, which opened October 2024 and will travel to other venues. \nAndrew Lyght’s works combine drawing\, painting\, sculpture\, and installation art. Through matching industrial elements with vibrant colors and smooth geometric shapes\, Lyght transforms hard-edge\, functional construction objects into artworks that are graceful and lyrical. \nThe work of Nigerian-American artist Osi Audu focuses on the dualism of form and void\, the tangible and intangible. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 7 & Sunday\, June 8\, 2025 from 11 AM – 2 PM \nReserve your space: https://bit.ly/43Siqc4 \n$180 Byrdcliffe Members / $200 Not-yet-members \nAnne Leith will lead a 2-day plein-air painting workshop on the grounds of the historic Byrdcliffe Colony. Participants will learn basic techniques for set-up\, framing up of the image\, laying down paint in a rapid and effective way\, and fabulous mark-making. \nMaterials to bring: \n\nPortable easel: Many portable easels include a small palette and a drawer for paint. If you prefer to work larger on a different easel\, you may want to bring a folding table and a bag for your gear. A bungee cord is an excellent thing to have to keep the easel from blowing over in most weather conditions.\nSurface to paint on of course. This can be panel or canvas\, but remember it needs to have a stable surface. If you work on paper it might blow away.\nBrushes\, solvents\, paint – please note that you may use any kind of paint you prefer\, with the exception of spray paint.\nRags\nWater\, a hat\, and bug spray\n\nABOUT ANNE LEITH \nI am primarily a painter of places.  I have been a plein-air painter for many years\, working in all weather conditions directly from nature. I also paint landscapes in the studio from memory\, which brings in an abstract vision\, more dreamlike in quality. \nMetallic foil is something I enjoy using in my oil paintings. It adds a reflective light element that resembles the sky and water\, attempting to echo nature’s constantly shifting range of tones and colors. \n \nSince she was very young Leith has been consistently making art\, indeed\, it would be impossible to stop her. She is an adventurer\, and has lived in Europe (France\, England\, Italy) as well as New York\, CA\, VT and New Hampshire. All these places have contributed to her vision of the world and nature\, which feeds her inspiration. Although primarily known as a landscape painter\, the work equally speaks to her interest in bold\, abstract mark-making\, and sometimes\, a magical ‘Alice in Wonderland’ sensibility. \nCurrently based in the Hudson River Valley\, Leith’s new work reflects the light on the river and the clouds at sunset. She includes metallic leaf in some of her work\, which adds to this effect of luminosity.
