The primary criteria for acceptance to Byrdcliffe’s Residency program is artistic excellence and demonstrated commitment to one’s field of endeavor. Artists in multiple disciplines are encouraged to apply in three general categories: Visual Arts, Literary Arts and Performing Arts.
Cottage residencies offer artists live/work space within the larger creative community of the Byrdcliffe Arts Colony amidst the serene natural setting of Woodstock, New York. While cottage residencies are more autonomous by nature, artists-in-residence are invited to participate in a variety of program offerings at Byrdcliffe.
All artists-in-residents are invited to participate in the annual AiR exhibition at Byrdcliffe’s Kleinert James Gallery the year following their residency.
Winter Residency
Our winter months are a quieter time of year at Byrdcliffe. They offer a wonderful opportunity for artists seeking time and space for creative work with minimal distractions.
Spring Residency
Spring at Byrdcliffe offers the perfect opportunity for artists who prefer solace. While we welcome creative practices in all areas, we have limited spaces available for Visual Artists. Spring residencies are ideal for writers.
Summer Residency
Individual cottage residencies are available during the summer months (May – September). Summer individual residencies offer programming such as practice shares, excursions, gatherings, guest speakers, and Open Studio events.
Artist Accommodations
Byrdcliffe’s artist-residency cottages are each unique in size, layout, and fee. Utilities (propane, electric, and Wi-Fi) are not included and pets are not allowed. For questions, contact air@woodstockguild.org
