Gwyneth Scally lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She received her MFA from the University of Arizona and has developed her practice traveling and training acrossLatin America, Europe, Northern Africa, New York, Los Angeles, China, Newfoundland and the Black Sea of Bulgaria.
Time spent in rural and wild places around the globe cultivated an interest in nature and ecological issues; Scally explores issues of displacement, nostalgia, and the Sublime, while suggesting deeper issues of an environmental order overturned. Her current work addresses the legacies of Classicism and Romanticism in our concepts of nature and national identity.
Scally has received numerous fellowships, scholarships and awards, and has participated in 80 international exhibitions. She has attended several artists’ residencies around the world, and most recently participated in Byrdcliffe’s AIR program, where she developed some of the work in this pop up retail exposition.
