The primary criterion for acceptance to Byrdcliffe’s artist residency program is artistic excellence or demonstrated commitment to one’s field of endeavor. Artists in multiple disciplines are welcome to apply including writing, visual arts, weaving, ceramics, composers, darkroom photo, digital photo, film makers, playwrights, and more.
Cottage residencies offer artists live/work space within the larger creative community of the Byrdcliffe Arts Colony amidst the serene natural setting of Woodstock, New York. While cottage residencies are more autonomous by nature, artists-in-residence are invited to participate in a variety of program offerings at Byrdcliffe.
During the summer months (May – September), this includes all AiR monthly communal program offerings such as practice shares, excursions, gatherings, guest speakers, and Open Studio events. During the winter months (October – April), this is a quieter time of year at Byrdcliffe and a wonderful time to be in residence for artists looking for time and space for creative work with minimal distractions.
All artists-in-residents also have the opportunity to participate in an exhibition at the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild’s Kleinert/James Center for the Arts during the year following their residency.
